| STANLEY LOSE LAST MATCH AFTER PRESENTATION |
| Soudley 2>> Leonard Stanley 0 |
Soudley were deserved victors in this encounter, on a day where Stanley clearly had other things on their mind. With injuries to Roberts and Davis and the absence of Andrew Sargent, Ben Knapman made his first start for the club and youngster Luke Beasant made another appearance. Dickerson also made a welcome appearance as substitute after a lengthy absence due to injury.
Soudley went ahead after 20 minutes after a defensive collision left their forward clean through and added another late on in the closing seconds as Stanley pushed for an equaliser.
Stanley’s warm up was replaced with the presentation of the league championship trophy by referee Mr Purser. Captain Phil Fanstone lifted his second championship trophy in two seasons much to delight of the Stanley faithful. A special thank you to Soudley for their dignified applause and excellent hospitality after the match. They also named Joe Hill- Pemberton as ‘Goof of the Game’, and he was presented with a chilli-laced shot and ‘Dirty Pint’. A big thank you also to everyone who made the long journey down to watch us lift the trophy!
It has been a fantastic season and with such a small squad. Already, preparations are now underway for a Stanley-Style attack on Senior One!
The exact date for the start of pre-season training will be confirmed very soon. (Late June or early July).
Also to be confirmed is the presentation night date and pre-season fixtures. Watch this space! |

| THREE POINTS SEAL THE CHAMPIONSHIP |
| Leonard Stanley 3...Viney St. Swithins 1 |
The seasons biggest crowd at Stanley Park saw two goals from Joe Yemm and a blistering strike from Bradley Brinkworth earned a 3 - 1 win at home to Viney St. Swithins and the points they needed to clinch the league Championship.
Leonard Stanley faced a resurgent Viney side knowing that a point would clinch the league title. However, from the first whistle they made their winning intentions clear. Stanley should have taken the lead in the early stages after some well worked chances from the hardworking Matt Fanstone and Jon Panton. Davis, Broadley and Hill Pemberton were winning the midfield battle and forced play in the Viney half. Set piece specialist Sargent finally carved Viney open with a fantastic corner, which Yemm finished well. Stanley were forced to replace the brave Roberts in the Stanley goal at half time which was a huge blow, but shortly after the restart Brinkworth’s cross was finished in devastating fashion again by Yemm. Stanley’s dominance eventually resulted in a third, when Brinkworth hit a tremendous volley into the top corner from 25 yards; much to the delight of the home supporters! Stanley looked understandably nervy in the final 10 minutes, but Phil Fanstone and Matthew Dickerson kept the defence solid. Stanley were reduced to ten men after Broadley’s protests after being struck in the face were too much for the referee, and this was followed by a late consolation for Viney. Stanley responded with a goal of their own after Bown’s free kick came back off of the cross-bar and was struck home by Yemm. Yemm celebrated his hat-trick but was cut short by the linesman, who did extremely well to notice an offside in the goal mouth scramble.
The final whistle eventually came and Stanley were crowned champions, an unbelievable feat with such a small squad of 13 players. A huge thank you to all of our supporters, the committee and the players who have worked so hard and selflessly for the cause!

| VALUABLE POINT GAINED |
| Leonard Stanley 0>>> Mitcheldean 0 |
| Leonard Stanley notched a valuable point in this fixture, although it should really have been all 3. With only 1 shot in the entire match, Mitcheldean showed the rugged determination that has earned them some great results in recent months. Leonard Stanley will rue several missed chances, including two goal-line clearances. However, Stanley need to look positively and it could prove to be a very crucial point as Smiths and Newton Heath can now not afford to drop a single point in their run-ins. Leonard can finish off both teams chances if they respond well next Wednesday at home to Viney. |

| OLD BOY ROG SCORES ON OUTING TO BOURTON |
| Bourton Rovers 1-2 Leonard Stanley 2 |
Stanley continued their winning streak with an important victory over Bourton. With a further depleted squad, the visitors will be happy with their fourth victory in a row at a crucial stage of the season. Man in form Roger Merrett put the visitors ahead after he met an Andrew Sargent corner at the back post. A defensive mix up 15 minutes later resulted in Matthew Fanstone notching his 25th goal of the season. Stanley had numerous chances to extend their lead, and faced a nervy five minutes after a late consolation goal for the hosts. |

| MATT FIRES ANOTHER HAT TRICK |
| Cam Bulldogs 0 - Leonard Stanley 3 |
The games don’t come much more important than this one. 3 points was a must in this fixture. A local derby on a blazing hot day was the latest test for the Stanley boys, who again passed with flying colours. Understandably, Stanley have started their last few fixtures nervously, and this was no exception. It took a good 25 minutes before Stanley got into their stride, although Panton, Yemm and Fanstone all had very good chances to put the visitors a goal ahead. Stanley struggled to get their passing game going until just before half time, when some great work from Brinkworth down the right resulted in a fantastic cross for Matt Fanstone to finish at the near post.
Again Stanley weathered the storm after the restart, and limited Cam’s play to outside the 18 yard box; Roberts was not forced into a save for the entire second half, but remained alert for several long balls, which he claimed well. Merrett and Hill Pemberton put in a hard days work in the middle and Phil Fanstone kept their main threat, Pete Jagger, quiet for the afternoon. As Stanley got their passing game going again, more chances fell their way. On the hour, Sargent advanced on the left, playing in Panton, who fed Fanstone to volley home his second; a great finish. The third soon followed after some great midfield work from Davis and Broadley sent Fanstone through to round the last defender and slot coolly past the advancing keeper for his hat-trick. Stanley should really have added more, and Broadley deserved better with his great lob from 25 yards, which sailed just past the post.
Another clean sheet for Stanley – that’s 16 now this season! (Well done lads!)
Thoughts go to Ben Jagger of Cam and Matthew Dickerson, who will both be out of action for a while after picking up bad leg injuries in earlier matches. |

| 'KEEPER GAFF SETS UP 3-0 WIN |
| Leonard Stanley 3 . Bourton Rovers 0 |
It took a long time for a goal to come and when it did it was courtesy of an embarrassing blunder by the visiting goalkeeper. Jon Panton's 66th minute shot had little fire in it, but when Bourton's keeper tried to pick it up it rolled between his legs 'schoolboy style' and into the net.
This set Stanley up for a much better final twenty minutes and two further goals- cooly taken by Matt Fanstone sealed the game.
Stanley were without Mark Davis and had unfortunately lost Matt Dickerson to an injury sustained in mid week, but the defence looked comfortable with Joe Yemm back in place after a one match absence. |

| TEST OF CHARACTER PASSED IN REPLAYED FIXTURE |
| Leonard Stanley 3.. Aylburton 1 |
The games will not come much bigger than this for Stanley, who were forced to replay the fixture after a comfortable 3-0 win.
Following the 0-0 stalemate at Aylburton and last week's defeat, this was a real test of character for Stanley. They were also missing Joey Yemm in the heart of defence, which made their task even tougher. From the first whistle Stanley showed great desire and deservedly took the lead after Matt Fanstone forced the ball over the line. Fanstone and Panton went close to doubling the Stanley lead before half time.
Stanley started the second half well and looked well worth their lead. Their second came after 60 minutes, when Brinkworth’s legs were taken from beneath him in the penalty area. Bown added the finishing touches. The second goal had a somewhat detrimental effect, and Stanley took their foot off of the gas. Their lapse in concentration allowed Aylburton to pull one back after a great run from their centre forward. This sparked Stanley back into life and with 15 minutes remaining, Panton settled affairs with a well placed header. Stanley should have extended their lead in the closing stages, but took all 3 points, which could be all so vital come May. Both teams should also take credit for their dignity and humility at the final whistle. |

| STANLEY TASTE DEFEAT IN TRICKY CONDITIONS |
| Smiths Athletic 3... Leonard Stanley 2 |
Leonard Stanley tasted defeat for only the second time this season away to a strong Smiths side. Stanley started off the fixture with some bright football on a very boggy surface that would get even worse. Stanley were unable to make the pressure tell and gifted the hosts a goal after a defensive collision left Steve Macca clean through to walk the ball over the line. Soon after the hosts made it 2 after another misjudged clearance was poked home.
Stanley showed great resilience in the second half, refusing to give the game up. The Smiths goal was under enormous pressure for most of the half, but it was Smiths who added to their lead; a cross looping Andrew Roberts and into the side of the net. Ironically, Stanley had an identical effort 2 minutes earlier, which came back off the post. Still, the visitors refused to give up and pulled one back. A great ball from Panton was headed back by Brinkworth, into the path of Matthew Dickerson, who finished well. The Smiths goal was under siege and Stanley pulled another back from the spot; Bown slotting home after he was felled in the area. Unfortunately time ran out for Stanley and credit goes to Smiths, who made the most of the tricky conditions. |

| HONEST LINESMAN MAKES KEY DECISION |
| Leonard Stanley 1.. Chalford 0 |
| It was a case of job done against Chalford in this local derby. The visitors should take credit for a great effort, certainly in the first half where they frustrated the hosts. Stanley knew that if they kept a clean sheet they were always capable of grabbing a goal, but the Chalford keeper looked inspired, twice denying Matthew Fanstone with unbelievable reaction saves. The Stanley goal was rarely threatened, but Roberts was alert for half chances from Jack Webb and the lively Paul Fawlk. Matthew Dickerson livened things up in the middle mid-way through the second half as Stanley grabbed hold of affairs and their dominance paid off after a Sargent Corner was forced across the line by the outstanding Roger Merrett. The Chalford linesman could easily have looked the other way as the Chalford keeper appeared to keep the ball out, but under enormous pressure made an honest decision. |

| BRINKWORTH HITS WINNER AT WINCHCOMBE |
| Winchcombe Town 0.. Leonard Stanley 1 |
Leonard Stanley have not played a better football team than Winchcombe so far this season. This was yet another ‘6 pointer’ in what has been a tough series of games for Stanley and the celebrations at the final whistle showed what it meant to the team.
Stanley were in great spirits on the coach trip down, John Sinden supplied his compilation music CD, which went down well!
Stanley again started quickly in this fixture, creating several good chances. Panton was played in after a fine move, but saw his effort blocked on the line, before Fanstone was played through only to be denied by the keeper.
Stanley played some fine football through the midfield and eventually got their reward after some great midfield work from Mark Davis; his ball eventually finding Brinkworth, who finished well.
In the second half, Stanley had some great chances to finish the game off, a rare move from a throw-in almost put Fanstone in, but he saw his volley skim the crossbar. Dickerson played Panton in mid-way through the half, but his heavy touch sent the ball to the advancing goalkeeper.
The Winchcombe wide men always looked dangerous, but Roberts and the entire team deserve huge credit for standing firm and keeping their 11th clean sheet in 21 games. Well done lads, lets continue our good run with a good performance next week! |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 13th March 2010 |
| STILL TIGHT AT THE TOP |
|
 |
| Leonard Stanley 1.. Newton Heath & Stroud 1 |
|
Having knocked the visitors from the league summit last week, this was an important game for both sides. Stanley were forced to make changes due to the injury of Joe Hill Pemberton during a charity cake baking event on the eve of the fixture.
Stanley adapted well and came firing out of the blocks, putting the visitors under pressure and striking the woodwork three times in the opening 20 minutes. Their reward came after a set piece straight from the training ground. An Andy Sargent free-kick, nodded down expertly by Joey Yemm; leaving Wayne Bown to slam the ball in.
However, the goal seemed to create a negative effect and in the final minutes of the half a rare defensive mistake let the Newton Heath and Stroud forward in to finish well.
The second half became somewhat of a chess match. Stanley’s game plan limited the visitors to only two shots in the entire game. Stanley should take a lot of credit for this and although it may have been frustrating to watch, Stanley created the best chance of the half when Brinkworth whipped a fine ball in from the right, only for Matt Fanstone to see his effort saved. Two late penalty shouts saw a disappointing end to the game, with the visitors leaving very relieved not to lose the points late on.

| SECOND HALF SHOW EARNS THE POINTS |
| Longford 1.. Leonard Stanley 4 |
Stanley stunned Longford with a second half performance that produced four goals.
An uneventful first half saw both teams struggle to create clear goalscoring opportunities, Longford came closest with a strike that 'keeper Andrew Roberts did well to tip over the bar. A couple of midfield skirmishes threatened to get out of hand before being dealt with by Referee Mr. Rice - Stanley's Mark Davis seeing yellow.
Whatever was in the half-time tea fired Stanley into life, within two minutes of the restart they were ahead, Jon Panton making no mistake finishing off a fine sequence of football. Three minutes later it was two - Matt Fanstone squeezed in his 18th goal of the season following some defensive dithering.
As Stanley swept more and more into their opponents half Bradley Brinkworth found himself on the edge of the box, he had other options but chose to pick a spot and drove the ball into the lower corner of the net to make it three.
Dazed but not yet defeated Longford began to put a few attacks of their own together, again Roberts had to be equal to one or two clear strikes at goal. In their best period of the game they did produced a goal, but a comeback was not be.
David Iles, Rog Merrett and Tom Pass were gradually introduced to replace tiring legs and as the final minutes ticked away another Stanley sweep forward saw skipper Phil Fanstone head a stunning goal from way out on the edge of the box.
This solid Stanley performance will set them up nicely for the next match when the league leaders visit Stanley Park.
WALKER HITS FOUR
Stanley veteren Dave 'Des' Walker now starring in the reserves, rolled back the years when he hit four goals at North Nibley in a 6 - 1 win. Jason Luff and Wayne Luff were the other two scorers. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 20th February 2010 |
| FANSTONE TRIPLE STUNS BARO BOYS |
| Leonard Stanley 3.. FC Barometrics 0 |
Leonard Stanley should take a great deal of credit for their performance against a strong and dangerous Barometrics side. It was a real 6 pointer at the top of the table, but Stanley’s build up remained calm and focused. Home performances have not set the world alight this season and the lads went out with a big job on their hands.
From the outset, Stanley forced the issue, clearly stating their intentions to steal all three points and they could have taken the lead after a quick break from midfield. Panton and Fanstone linked up effectively, resulting in the latter finishing off a neat move; only to be judged offside.
Stanley played the far better football, keeping the ball away from the boggy midfield and Barometrics’ frustration led to a few tasty tackles. Stanley got their reward after 40 minutes when a quick ball from Panton again played Matty Fanstone in, this time the referee ignored the hopeful offside flag and Fanstone finished well.
Nerves started to creep in just before the break but Stanley came out for the second half with a great attitude and doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Fanstone finished after a great through ball from the midfield.
As the Barometrics’ tackles got harder, they soon realised that Stanley can mix it themselves, and after Fanstone was brought down in the penalty area, he netted his hat-trick from the spot, sealing a massive 3 points. Andrew Roberts and the back 3 deserve a special mention after keeping their 11th clean sheet in 18 games, this has also been helped by the hardworking midfield and forward lines. A great team effort! Stanley should be very proud of what they have achieved up to now and need to focus hard on Saturday’s game against tough tackling Mitcheldean. Stanley will be missing 4 players but will be ready for the challenge. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 13th February 2010 |
| FRUSTRATION FOR STANLEY |
| Aylburton 0.. Leonard Stanley 0 |
Stanley travelled to the forest for a very tricky fixture. Aylburton had put 4 goals past both Barometrics and Hatherley Rangers in their two previous fixtures, highlighting what great form they are in. Stanley promised a good response after last weeks first defeat of the season and they dominated the early play with a series of attacks, free-kicks and corners. Mark Davis went close on one occasion after a great cross from Mat Fanstone.
The game changed after 20 minutes, when the Aylburton goalkeeper was sent from the field of play for descent, aiming a fair few expletives at the referee. Stanley rallied for the winner, but were unable to find space with Aylburton sitting behind the ball. To Aylburton’s credit, they defended well and were happy not to have a single attempt on the Stanley goal. It was a frustrating day for Stanley, who very quickly need to find that spark to re-ignite their season. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 6th February 2010 |
| STANLEY SUFFER FIRST LEAGUE DEFEAT |
| Leonard Stanley 1.. Hatherley Rangers 3 |
Leonard Stanley tasted defeat for the first time in this fixture. The game started very brightly, with Stanley having several good chances to finish the visitors off. Hatherley did particularly well in the opening minutes to keep out a goalmouth scramble, which was eventually cleared. Ten minutes before half time the visitors shocked the hosts with a well worked goal after a superb run and through ball form the Hatherley number 10. In the second half Stanley were punished further after two rare defensive errors. Firstly, Fanstone was pick-pocketed by the Hatherley winger, which led to a second Hatherley goal, before Andrew Roberts brought down the centre forward after being left over exposed.
Leonard Stanley should take credit for not giving it up and made a real game of it. Panton headed one back after a great ball from Joey Yemm. Matt Fanstone hit the post and Brinkworth saw his one on one excellently saved.
A good wake up call for the lads, before a crucial fixture next week. The boys will respond positively. News that the top three all lost their fixtures shows how difficult each game is going to be for the teams at the top. Credit to the lower teams for raising their game. Now we have to! |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 30th January 2010 |
| JOB DONE OVER THE RIVER |
| Tidenham 0-2 Leonard Stanley 2 |
Stanley came away from Lydney with 3 valuable points from this fixture and must look upon it as a job done. Although the final ball let them down in the first half, the midfield looked dominant and worked the hosts hard.
Stanley pressured hard in the opening 10 minutes and won a series of corners, the fourth of which evaded everyone to drop into the Tidenham net; a trademark Andy Sargent in-swinger.
Stanley dominated the first half and should really have gone 3 or 4 up, but Tidenham deserve credit for not throwing in the towel. Leonard had to wait until midway through the second half for their second; a classy volley from Matty Fanstone, which found its way in off of the bar.
Although it would be easy to pick at faults, Stanley deserve great credit for doing the job in difficult conditions and also preventing the hosts from having a single shot on target. A 9th clean sheet in 15 for the lads.
Stanley will now have to raise their game again as they welcome the improving Hatherley Rangers next week. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - Saturday 23rd January 2010 |
| UNDER STRENGTH TEAM TAKE A POINT |
| Leonard Stanley 0 >>Harrow Hill Res 0 |
Leonard Stanley were disappointed only to take a point from this game but have to look at the positives. Captain Phil Fanstone was out due to illness, whilst Joey Yemm was on holiday. This meant that all 3 defensive positions were forced to change as well as Matthew Dickerson moving to the right and Roger Merrett coming into the midfield.
Although chances were scarce, Stanley looked shaky in the first 20 minutes, but gradually found their feet. Stanley unusually did not create many chances, and either side could have grabbed a winner. Harrow Hill made 2 goal line clearances from Matt Fanstone and Wayne Bown in the closing stages, while at the other end, Roberts made an excellent stop to keep another clean sheet.
With news that Smiths fell to Chalford, the league seems a lot tougher and Stanley still remain top, with a lot to play for.
Roger Merrett had an excellent game in midfield, whilst Andrew Roberts kept his eighth clean sheet of the season. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 12th December |
| SEVEN GOAL ROUT PUTS STANLEY TOP |
| Leonard Stanley 7 ..Smiths Athletic 0 |
What looked on paper like a very tricky fixture turned out to be Stanley's biggest win of the campaign so far.
Smiths Athletic, just one league position below were expected to be tough opponents but arrived at Stanley a depleted side due to a flu epidemic. First half goals from Jon Panton (2), Dave Broadley and Matt Fanstone were followed by three more in the second - a superb volley to give Fanstone his second, an own goal that the hapless defender could do little about and a perfectly placed free-kick from Rob Harkins. Smiths offered little resistance to a fine Stanley performance, but should be given credit for sticking at it and playing the game in a good spirit. The win takes Stanley to the top of the table thanks to Barometrics 2-0 win over Newton Heath and Stroud who have a game in hand. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 5th December |
| BRINKWORTH VOLLEY EARNS THE POINTS |
| Chalford 1// Leonard Stanley 2 |
Stanley knew that this would be a tough game and that’s exactly what it turned out to be. Chalford, who are steadily re-building a new side came out fighting, but were totally outplayed in the first 20 minutes. Stanley’s passing was slick and incisive, but they failed to take their chances. They were punished when Brimscombe’s County league record goalscorer, John Dalton beat the defensive line to tuck away.
Stanley did not panic however and their play earned them an equaliser after 35 minutes, with a great effort from range by Mark Davis.
Chalford gave Stanley a scare early in the second half but found Andrew Roberts in top form in the Stanley goal.
Stanley rallied and after a complete change in the midfield, great work from Panton and Harkins resulted in a belter of a volley from Brinkworth to take a vital 3 points that were just about deserved. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 28th November |
| POINT SAVED THANKS TO FANSTONE FINISH |
| Leonard Stanley 1-- Winchcombe Town 1 |
Complacency got the better of Stanley in this fixture. After a great result away to the league leaders, Stanley failed to capitalise on poor results for Barometrics and Smiths at the top. In fairness to the visitors, they played the better football and took a deserved lead on 30 minutes after a fine run from their speedy left winger.
Stanley could have taken a lead themselves on ten minutes, but were thwarted by a stubborn defence in a long goalmouth scramble. In tough conditions for both sides, Stanley showed their resilience and the introduction of Davis and Holland had an immediate impact – Matt Fanstone saving a point for the home side with a great turn and finish from 18 yards.
Stanley’s misery was complete after hearing that the home game against Aylburton would have to be replayed, stripping them of three points. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 21st November |
| STANLEY DARKEN LEADERS PROGRESS |
| Newton Heath & Stroud 1...// Leonard Stanley 1 |
It was top versus second at Bishops Cleeve on a dark and dismal November day. Matt Fanstone could have brightened things up for the visitors after a few minutes but failed to find the net when he was one on one with the keeper. Newton Heath played some promising football but it was usually broken down by a sturdy Stanley defence. On 26 minutes Fanstone was fouled a yard outside the box as he tried to break through. A free kick was awarded which Jon Panton neatly tucked in the top left corner to put Stanley ahead.
The home side thought they were level on 43 minutes following a tidy sequence of passes. However a linesman's flag was brought to the referee's attention and the goal ruled out.
After 18 minutes of the second half an equaliser did arrive - and deservedly so - as the swift passing and movement of the home side was gradually giving them the edge. At 1- 1 Stanley had to dig in to stop their opponents playing - there were x-rated tackles and several bouts of handbags with a home player getting his marching orders. Referee Mr Prout had a lot to sort out in the darkness of the final 15 minutes.
Either team could have won it. Stanley went the closest in the dying minutes when a break away saw Fanstone set up Panton who fired his shot just over. Andrew Roberts in Stanley's goal demonstrated a safe pair of hands throughout. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 14th November |
| STANLEY HOLD ON IN DIFFICULT CONDITIONS |
| Leonard Stanley 4>> Longford 3 |
As the surface became increasingly slippery and the wind swirled, two teams endeavoured to play controlled football. That was difficult and the goal at the Marsh Road end of Stanley's ground saw the vast majority of the action. This advantage was with Stanley in the first half and Andy Sargent found the top corner from all of 30 yards. Longford however, defied the elements to strike back with a good equalising goal on twenty minutes. Fanstone put Stanley back in front after his deflected shot tricked over the line. Then the same player found himself with time and space after bursting through the defence, this time he was impeded by the goalkeeper as he was about to pull the trigger. Wayne Bown tucked away the resultant penalty kick to put daylight between the teams. Stanley pressure on the Longford defence continued, Dave Broadley's shot ended up at the feet of Jon Panton who finished it off by backheeing into the net. Longford still managed to reduce the deficit and scored a second virtually on the half time whistle.
The second half was all about Stanley holding on. Their defence was by far the busiest as Longford piled on the pressure, pinned back by corners and free-kicks the home side failed to get into their opponent's half for long periods. Longford scored another and looked well on the way to an equaliser. Fortunately for Stanley, it never came as they dug in and slowly got their game together to take three more very welcome league points on a day when anything could have happened. |

| Stroud Charity Cup - 8th November |
| BEASANT DEBUT THE ONLY PLUS |
| Dursley Town 2>> Leonard Stanley 0 |
| Stanley travelled away to Dursley with the hope of causing an upset but were left disappointed. Despite resting players the first half was well contested, with Stanley creating the best chances, but failing to capitalise on some sloppy Dursley defending. The killer blow came just before half time as the Dursley forward beat the offside trap to slot home. Dursley showed why they are a strong senior one outfit this year with some great passing and movement. They kept the ball very well and were rewarded with a second. Harkins could have set up an interesting finale if his effort didn’t hit the upright, but it was not to be Stanley’s day. A special mention goes to 16 year old Luke Beasant, who made a deserved debut appearance after great commitment in training. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - 7th November |
| STANLEY EASE PAST MITCHELDEAN |
| Mitcheldean 0>> Leonard Stanley 4 |
If the spectators were expecting fireworks from this fixture then they were left a little disappointed. A miserable day in the forest was made worthwhile however with Stanley taking another three valuable points. The game was killed off after 20 minutes after Stanley were awarded two early penalties; Matt Fanstone’s legs being swept away and Brinkworth’s tame shot being handled. Bown netted both spotkicks. Mitcheldean had no arguments with either decision and to their credit kept the pressure on. Any chance of a close affair was distinguished when Fanstone ran clear and finished via the post. The second half was a scrappy affair and Fanstone’s reactions were too quick for Mitcheldean as he latched on to a cleared corner to run through and finish well. Best wishes go to Mark Davis who was taken to hospital for a nasty cut above the eye. |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - October 31st |
| GRITTY PERFORMANCE EARNS 3 POINTS |
| FC Barometrics 0... Leonard Stanley 1 |
Leonard Stanley travelled to Newlands, Cheltenham to face a strong Barometrics side, who had knocked Stonehouse Town out of the cup a week earlier. Stanley knew they were going to have their resolve tested and the players needed to show a great deal of grit and resilience in order to take any points from the fixture.
Barometrics shaded the first half with some great football and Roberts was forced to make an important save on 20 minutes from a Billy Davis Strike. Mat Fanstone had Stanley’s best chance, having his shot parried after a great Andy Sargeant through ball. Stanley grew in confidence in the second half and started to frustrate their opponents, James Hall seeing yellow for a string of infringements. Stanley broke the deadlock when Bradley Brinkworths shot was too much for Goalkeeper Sonny Martin and found it’s way into the net. Stanley deserved their goal and also saw a goal chalked off after it appeared to cross the line after Brinkworth’s effort hit the bar. A great all round team performance, and it is character like this that Stanley will need to draw on again in some tricky upcoming fixtures. |
|
| Northern Senior League Division 2 - October 3rd |
| STANLEY TOO STRONG FOR TIDENHAM |
| Leonard Stanley 5... Tidenham 0 |
Stanley welcomed Wayne Bown into the heart of a defence that never looked like being penetrated by a Tidenham side that lacked any real invention. Stanley looked the more dangerous from the start, but referee Mr Taylor's somewhat generous award of a 15th minute penalty to them was not capitalised on by the usually so reliable Joe Yemm. When a second spot kick was given some twenty minutes later Yemm passed the responsibility to Andy Sargent who could only produce the same result, both were saved by Tidenham's goalkeeper.
Stanley eventually took the lead before half time when John Panton finished clincally following a great ball from Dave Broadley.
After the break, with the wind and the slope in Stanley's favour the visiting defence had to endure wave after wave of attack. On 54 minutes from a Stanley corner Wayne Bown's header found the net via post and defenders boot to make it 2-0. The third came soon after when Matt Fanstone showed a nice touch in the six yard box before firing home.
Stanley's fourth was the goal of the game, Andy Sargent spotted Bradley Brinkworth's run and hit a delightful ball into the box, Brinkworth met it perfectly giving the keeper no chance. Brinkworth then featured heavily in the fifth - a goal that raised a titter amongst the home supporters - through on goal he tapped it past the keeper, only for it to rebound back to him, his second attempt at getting it over the line was cleared somewhat, retrieving the ball from the by-line he then fired in a cross, which a hapless defender buried past his own keeper with a perfect header. That completed a good all round performance by the team with Dave Broadley and Joe Hill- Pemberton probably worthy of a special mention for their performances. |

Harrow Hill Res. 2 >>Leonard Stanley 2 |
'Footballisticly' Stanley were the better side and created much the better chances, but they had to settle for a point from the visit to Harrow Hill. John Panton put them one-up after only a few minutes following a goalkeeping error. Stanley were looking comfortable until the 25th minute when Roberts in goal came for a ball that he didn't get - allowing a Harrow Hill forward to equalise with his head.
Solid in defence and with attacking options on both flanks Stanley took the game to Harrow Hill and in the second half Fanstone put them back in front after a superb run down the left by Panton who's low cross was perfect for Fanstone to slot home. It should have been three moments later when Bradley Brinkworth crossed from the right but Matt Casey's header hit the upright. At the other end a rare strike from the home team looked net-bound but Roberts was a match for it - stretching to tip it over the bar. Fanstone then found himself with only the keeper to beat and passing options both ways, his indecision before his shot allowed the goalkeeper to scramble the ball from his feet. After escaping these close shaves the home side seemed to grow physically stronger and pressed the Stanley defence late in the game. On 79 minutes Joe Yemm lunged in to a tackle in the box and didn't get the ball. A penalty was awarded and Harrow Hill's Matt Jackson made no mistake with it. Final score 2-2.
Leonard Stanley look at ease in this league and have the ability to do very well, but errors made are more often punished, making missed chances all the more regrettable. Even if you are on top' footballisticly'. (thanks Mr Wenger) |

| STANLEY SAVED BY LAST GASP YEMM PEN |
| Leonard Stanley 2... Soudley 2 |
| An 88th minute penalty put away by Joe Yemm saw the points shared in a game that Stanley had enough chances to win comfortably. The home team started brightly and went one-up after 15 minutes through Bradley Brinkworth. They could and probably should have increased their lead but chance after chance went astray. Instead it was Soudley who found the net and the teams turned around at 1-1. The visitors continued to apply pressure in the second half and took the lead. Merrett and Brennan were introduced for Stanley and the latter produced a maizey run into the box in the final minutes only to be stopped unfairly, leaving the referee no option but to award. Up stepped Joe to do his stuff - final score 2 - 2 |

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - September 5 |
| FIRSTS RETURN FROM FOREST WITH THE POINTS |
| Viney St Swithuns 0..... Leonard Stanley 5 |
Stanley went to parts unknown for their first Northern Senior away game and came away emphatic winners by some margin. The impressive ground and crowd saw a very even first half hour with Fanstone and \debutant John Panton causing the home sides defence hassel as they looked to break the deadlock and with Wayne Bown, Joe Yemm and MOM Phil Fanstone looking very tight at the back.
On the half hour mark Sargent's impressive freekick into the box was headed well by Panton to give him his first goal for the club and take Stanley into a first half lead as they finished the half without trouble only testing Roberts with a well hit freekick.
In a change at half time Broadley made way for Pemberton and with 5 minutes gone a well worked goal was headed home by Panton again to give Stanley breathing space. The home side hit back with a freekick that as flick on seeing Roberts beat away the goal bound header. After this Viney offered little going forward and then Stanley upped a gear to seal the game striker Matt Fanstone upended and Yemm to slotted in the third from the spot. Fanstone eventually got on the score sheet when Yemm's long ball was lapped up by the front man to round the goal keeper to go four up. Soon after Roberts saved well from a Fanstone back-header, somehow grabbing the ball on the line. Then to seal the victory Brinkworth ran through following a Matt Fanstone through ball to slide past the keeper to complete the scoring and give management partnership Ken Roberts and Matt Fanstone a perfect start to the season.

| Northern Senior League Division 2 - August 31 |
| FANSTONE HITS CLUB'S FIRST SENIOR LEAGUE GOAL |
| Leonard Stanley 1>>> Cam Bulldogs 0 |
Stanley came away from their first Northern Senior league match with a 1-0 victory over Cam Bulldogs and it was fitting that Matt Fanstone - who hit 35 goals in last seasons Stroud League winning campaign - should be the man to score the goal.
In a tight match Cam's defence were marginally the busier but Stanley's own rear guard of Wayne Bown, Joe Yemm and Phil Fanstone delt with everything that was thrown at them with efficiency. Brad Brinkworth and Carl Harrison were always a threat on the flanks but Stanley's final ball lacked the cutting edge to produce many real goal scoring opportunities.
It stayed that way until 73 minutes when Matt Fanstone chased down a long ball and stuck it past former Stanley goalkeeper Ben Jagger. With a goal to spur them on the home side created further chances, first when Harison crossed for Mark Davis who could only head into Jagger's hands and then, Fanstone, when put through by Andy Sargent, could have got his second but for a miscue at the cruitial moment. Stanley had to cope with a flurry of Cam advances in the final minutes but held on to win their first three Northern Senior League points. This should offer a bit of confidence for the trip to Viney St. Swithuns next week. |
